Marie Cahill

Marie Cahill received her B.Mus. (Hons.) degree from McGill University in 1977.

She was a teaching assistant at McGill and later taught at the McGill Conservatory

of Music while doing extensive extensive post-graduate work in music.

She received her early musical training from the Sisters of Mercy in St. John’s, Newfoundland,

and  taught music in the St. John’s Catholic  school system for five years.

Marie studied piano at Acadia University under Matt Hughes,

then at McGill University with Kenneth Woodman.

Since moving to Vancouver in 1982 she has maintained a busy piano studio, directed a

children’s choir and adjudicated throughout the Lower Mainland.  Her students and choir

have won numerous first-place awards and trophies.

Marie was on the executive of the Vancouver Music Festival Workshop committee for many

years and was a conductor and coach for the multi-piano group Pianos Galore. She is

currently president of the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, an organization geared to give

performance opportunities to high school and university music students who intend to

pursue a career in music.
