Curricula

Most of our students are working toward diplomas offered by the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto.  We prepare students for other music examination systems, such as the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (UK).  We also welcome students who are not aiming to take examinations.

All of our instructors are qualified to teach at all levels in their subjects, from beginner to the most advanced diploma levels.

For  information on regular instruction in conservatory piano,  please contact Marie Cahill or Roy Campbell.

For information on cello instruction please contact Janelle Ragno or Andrew Luchkow.

For information on organ instruction please contact Roy Campbell.

We offer classes in Yamaha Group Piano for two to five year old children as well as seniors. Yamaha is a popular method because of the enjoyment of group experience, and because of non-competition and parental participation. The Yamaha process is one of hearing, singing, seeing, playing, and creating. We offer certain courses of the Yamaha Music Education program. Please contact Marie Cahill for more information.

We offer all levels of music theory instruction, including rudiments, harmony, counterpoint, analysis, and history. Please contact Robert Batt.  For detailed information please go to his page at www.shmsvancouver.com/instructors/robert-batt

Instruction in ear training and sight reading is offered at all practical examination levels by all our instructors.

Private lessons can be arranged to suit the needs of the student.  Group lessons are possible depending on the subject and on the availability of students at the same level.  We teach year-round, with some weeks off at Christmas and in July and August, especially the last two weeks of August.

Our tuition fees are reasonable and are within the guidelines of the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers’ Association.
